A week dedicated to carers who help others takes place from 12-18 June and across Brent a series of events will be offering carers some free things to mark the week and the importance carers play in the community.

Brent Council's online service BRAIN is offering information and advice to local residents who want to set up their own community group. The online advice provides information from what formal requirements are needed to set up a group.

Workers fear closure
Disabled workers at the Remploy factory in Gypsy Corner are to find out this week if their jobs are safe following a leaked memo suggesting that the Park Royal site could be one of the 16 factories out of 83 in which their employer is considering for closure.

Brent's first ever black mayor has been elected the borough's mayor for a second time. Bertha Joseph, who represents Kensal Green as a councillor beat Lib Dem Councillor Chandubhai Patel by 36 votes to 27 at the recent Mayor Making ceremony at Brent Town Hall.

Voters in Ealing have kicked out Labour and turned to the Conservatives to run the council. Out of 69 seats up for election on May 4, Conservatives won 37 seats. In the Park Royal area of East Acton, Conservatives won two seats and Labour just one. |

New look for Central Middx
After nearly 10 years of development, staff and patients have now started to move into Central Middlesex Hospital's new building. The £80m project which began in 1997 is expected to be completed by 2007 with a staged approach to moving in. |
